KAREN HAID
Flutist and Pianist
“Equally gifted on piano and flute” (BBC Music Magazine), Karen Haid has been lauded as “a chamber music superstar” (Richmond News Leader) for her remarkable achievements on both instruments. She has been a member of the Richmond Symphony, Orchestra Virginia Beach, and the Miami Symphony, and has served on the faculties of Florida State University, Virginia Commonwealth University, and the University of Alaska. In addition to performances at Tanglewood, the Music Academy of the West, and Colonial Williamsburg, she has been a featured artist with the Kansas City Chamber Orchestra and the Richmond Chamber Players, among others. Laurels include the Coleman Chamber Music Award, a Certificate of Excellence from the 5th Vienna International Music Competition, top prizes in several competitions sponsored by the National Flute Association, and memberships in Pi Kappa Lambda and Phi Kappa Phi national honor societies. She holds the Bachelor of Music, magna cum laude, and the Master of Music degrees from Boston University, a Diploma from the Juilliard School, and doctorates in both the flute and piano from Florida State University. She has given presentations for the College Music Society and the Florida Flute Association, and her articles have been published in a variety of music magazines. Recently released on the Nimbus label, her first solo compact disc, The Music of Walter Gieseking, was praised as “gorgeously lyrical” by The Scene and “a must” by the American Record Guide. |
