Troy Allen  Webdell
Troy Webdell (b.1970, Valparaiso, Indiana)is an active community and professional conductor. He is the founder and conductor of South Shore Chamber Orchestra, an auditioned orchestra for musicians of Northern Indiana, Illinois and Southwest Michigan. Webdell has been a guest conductor and clinician for the Indiana Bandmasters Association as well as the Indiana Music Educators Association Non-Competitive Festivals. In 2004, he presented a conducting clinic at the Indiana Music Educators Association State Convention entitled “Conducting Young Musicians Expressively.” In 2001 and 2006, Mr. Webdell received the regional award for “Best Musical/Orchestral Director of the Year” by the Northwest Indiana Excellence in Theatre Foundation for his musical direction in productions of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and Man of La Mancha. Born and raised in Valparaiso, Indiana, his primary conducting teachers have been Stanley DeRusha, William Hochkeppel and Michael Haydn as well as masterclasses with Ray Cramer, Stephen Pratt, and Frederick Fennell. In addition to conducting, Mr. Webdell is an active composer and arranger for high school, college, and church ensembles. His piece for concert band, The Lost City of Alaca Hoyuk, was written in memory of the American composer Alan Hovhaness. It has recently been recorded by the Valparaiso University Chamber Concert Band in Valparaiso, Indiana and will appear on their upcoming CD. Mr. Webdell is a member of the Conductors Guild, The League of American Symphony Orchestras, Indiana Music Educators Association, Indiana Bandmasters Association, and the Music Educators National Conference. He and his wife Valerie reside in Valparaiso, Indiana with their daughters Sophie and Mia.
